          Saving Hannah's house

Hannah Connell Barker immigrated from Ireland and landed in the rough mining town of Ward in 1869.  After a few years she moved to Boulder where she contributed herskills as a teacher, businesswoman and civic leader until her death in 1918. Her home at 800 Arapahoe Avenue was the gathering place for many community events. After Hannah's death, the building fell into disrepair and was in danger of being demolished until, in 2010 the house was donated to Historic Boulder. The preservation and renovation of Hannah's house is Historic Boulder's main goal today. The first four phases of a five-phase rehabilitation has been completed.
